Say No To Santa was born out of being a fed up consumer who used to love the fesitve season but realised it was more and more being taken over by the massive retailing industry that sits behind the fat and jolly guy that all the kids love, called Santa.

When our son was little I got mad when I saw that retailers were pushing the line that spending was the way to show you love your friends and family – especially the kids

I was mad that instead of Christmas being a celebration of family it became a celebration of spending. The more I spoke to friends and family about it, the more I realised I wasn’t the only one who felt this way.

Christmas has been turned into a giant marketing exercise, all dressed up in the joy of family, tradition and fun but it still drives the message that it's all about buying stuff and that happiness and self worth come from having things.

Somewhere along the way we forgot about values such as the gift of time, the gift of making something or even choosing to not engage in this particular celebration without being judged.

Most people never stop to think about what effect all this emphasis on buying more and more things is having on our children, the planet and future generations.

I decided to challenge conventional thinking about how we celebrate seasonal events. So I said no to Santa.

I feel it is time to make a stand, to expose the Santa marketing machine for the giant and dangerouis fraud that it is and help others to Say No To Santa

My husband Phil & I live in Hobart, Tasmania with our now 20 year old son and have happily not done the Christmas thing for  more than 10 years. We remain on great terms with our family and friends.

You can learn to Say No to Santa and maintain a happy, loving relatinship with your children, family and friends.
